Van der Sar praises Hernandez

Javier Hernandez has what it takes to go on and become a big hit at Manchester United, according to Edwin van der Sar.

The 22-year-old, signed from Chivas Guadalajara during the summer in a reported £8million deal, marked his arrival with something of a fortunate goal in the 3-1 Community Shield victory over Chelsea as United earned some early bragging rights at Wembley.

Hernandez had the goal at his mercy, only to scuff his shot up onto his own head and back into the empty net.

Van der Sar believes the young Mexican - nicknamed 'Chicharito', the little pea - has already shown with his efforts during pre-season that Hernandez has a bright future ahead at Old Trafford.

"He has been looking good for the last 10 days since he joined us in the United States," said the Dutchman, who turns 40 in October. "How he scored does not really matter - the most important thing was for him to get on the scoresheet and for the fans to see a very talented player.

"He is a big prospect. More players are emerging and together with the experienced ones we have to try and bring something back."
