Javier Hernandez scores against Spain

Mexico and Manchester United star Javier Hernandez highlighted his predatory skills again with a goal against Spain in Wednesday’s international friendly but insisted that he would rather have had his country win.

Mexico had to accept a 1-1 draw against newly crowned world champions Spain despite taking the lead through an early Hernandez goal.

The strike again showed the immense potential of the new United summer signing but the Mexico international wished he could have helped his country celebrate a victory instead, in a game that was held in celebration of Mexico’s Bicentennial of the country winning its independence from Spain in 1810.

“Obviously I feel very happy but I would have loved and would have preferred a win much more,” Hernandez told a packed press conference.

Hernandez insisted that the players were not feeling any side effects from their summer exertions in South Africa.

“We felt great,” Hernandez added. “We were at the orders of (coach Enrique) Meza, who also deserved this bit of reward.”

The precocious striker – nicknamed Chicharito or “Little Pea” by fans for his eye colour – also thanked fans and media support after having secured a move to the Premier League giants – a transfer which has brought much pride to the country’s countless football fans.

“I’m thankful for all the support. Thank God for these moments,” Hernandez said. “I’m keeping my calm about it, taking it step by step and enjoying my career but I don’t feel more than or less than anybody.”

Hernandez has been in stirring form since joining up with his new club. The striker has already scored twice for the Red Devils in their pre-season tour of North America, as well as one goal against his employers while playing for former team Chivas Guadalajara in a friendly between both clubs. The pacy attacker also crowned his competitive debut for United in the Community Shield with a goal against Chelsea to help the club to a win over the Premier League champions.

Hernandez also scored twice for Mexico during their World Cup campaign and was named the fastest player in the tournament.
