Anders Lindergaard: I'm not here to be on the bench!

New goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard insists he is not at Old Trafford just to sit on the bench.

Lindegaard was signed from Aalesund earlier this season and is seen as the long-term replacement for current No.1 Edwin van der Sar.

But there is speculation United are keen to bring in a top-class goalkeeper as the Dutchman looks set to retire this summer.

But Denmark international Lindegaard told the Manchester Evening News: "I want to be the best.

"I want to be first choice. I am not here because I want to be on the bench.

"I am not thinking about Edwin's situation. I only focus on things I can do something about and that is me.

"Being number one at United is a goal far out on the horizon. It is not something I think about when I go to sleep at night.

"The only thing I think about then is tomorrow's training.

"But it is always there on the horizon that reminds you of where you want to go and what you want to be."
