Manchester United may make the first serious offer for Southampton youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this month.
United boss SAF made a personal check on Oxlade-Chamberlain on the weekend and came away impressed.
The Daily Mail says United are now considering an opening £5million offer with extra payments on appearances.
It is understood United are willing to sign the player and loan him back for the rest of the season.
Liverpool are prepared to go to £10 million for the teen, though are yet to make a firm offer.
Manchester United are also closing on Lens prospect Raphael Varane.
It was revealed yesterday that Varane had United, Arsenal and Chelsea all battling for his signature.
And The Sun says United are preparing to table a £3.7million offer for the Lens defender.
Varane is a France U18 international and has already made his first team debut with Lens.
