Man Utd targeted "El Nino" to replace want-away Rooney

Manchester United have reportedly targeted Liverpool striker Fernando Torres to replace Wayne Rooney .

According to the Star, Manchester United will be willing to pay £50m for the Spaniard now that Rooney is said to have expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford.

United are hoping to get £75m from the sale of Rooney to fund the Torres purchase.
However, United will face competition for the Spaniard from Barcelona and Manchester City , who, incidentally, have both also been linked with Rooney.

"On the face of it spending all that money on one player is something United would find hard to give the green light to," a close source to Torres told the paper.

“But they know Torres would sell shirts all over the world. It’s no secret that Ferguson wants Torres at United.”
