Am I wrong or is there very little interest in this bill from IV - or for that matter other immigration groups?
I understand that its going to be hard to get ANY legislation passed over the next couple of quarters, but I think getting behind these inital ones will lead to a growing momentum. This momentum is what will eventually lead to any immigration changes..

It's hard for me to imagine this editorial (he did mention hi-tech workers) and lack of discourse over H1B Green cards negate the heroic efforts by IV.

Question gurus... I have a xerox copy of my approved I-140. Will this be enough to port the priority date? or do you need the original copy to be submitted along with the new I-140 application when you request portability of older priority date?? please clarify.
Yes. That is suffice. My attorney asked for original and i told him, i have only I140 approval copy. Attorney asked additional proof like pay stubs, w2's from that employer. I submitted copies of pay stubs and w2's from that employer. My case is approved. waiting for the Notice copy. I will come to know once i receive the approval notice whether they ported priority date or not.

I think the OP has some valid points. Certainly recapture lawsuit may work as the law does not say that allocated EB visas expire. Do not listen to nay-sayers, just do it.
Here is one example of the succsessfull class-action (even though the court case died in a court of appeals, it was beneficial to immigrants):

I own a house and haven't even applied for I-485. My PD is Sep 07. It's been almost 2 yrs since my purchase and I couldn't be happier.
I am thinking of buying a home without waiting for GC approval. I am EB3 I with PD 2006. No hopes of GC in near future. Just want to see the trend....

this poll is a good idea to understand what most of the members expect from CORE....
....this is a grass-roots organization and any highly skilled legal immigrant should be able to donate $25

But let's face reality for a moment - as several senior members routinely point out, inspite of our organization having several thousand "highly paid" members, the "donor" base is very limited. As Zen says in a truly Zen manner "we are where we are"...and we have to figure out where to go from here. Unquestionably, I am really thankful to our highly dedicated Core team for sacrificing their personal time and making all of the efforts that have led to substantial progress over the last few years for the immigration community. However,, that with a new government in place, we now have a truly unique window of opportunity to make some progress and the question before us is how do we maximize our potential to take advantage of this? The real beauty of my proposal is that we could leverage the enormous dedication of the core team and multiply it several fold, if we could build a strong donor base that provides us the funding required to engage effective lobbyists. Needless to say the more the funding, the stronger can be our lobbying.

However, what you are referring to is the merchanics of the process of sharing updates- there are several ways in which we could implement the update process so that information is only shared to a predefined "pool" and that "donors" are first vetted before being brought into the "pool", so to speak. The way IV has currently implemented this process, of course, is through the local chapters. However, their current process is subject to lack of consistency (depending very heavily on the availability of the local chapter coordinators) and more importantly, does not take advantage of the tool that really enables us to all come together i.e. the internet. It is a paradox that an organization founded on the net and is still subjecting itself to the constraints of "physical communication" via the local chapters. I thought they were taking a step in right direction with the creation of the "Donor Forum", however, for some reason, we still seem stuck in the previous mode of operation. We can find a middle ground here that would not compromise confidentiality or our goals - one alternative (certainly not the only one I am sure) is quite simply, email updates compiled by one person (for consistency and uniform direction) that go out a distribution group, where the "donors" on the distribution list, have been vetted by the local chapter coordinators. I know this takes work, but if the Core is looking for a person to pull together a Conference Call to compile this update and send it out, I would be glad to volunteer my services.
Still I've some open issues. If you look at the poll, there isnt a single person who voted NO. We should expect to see a healthy mix of Yes,No and Dont Care. But the way the poll has been put and partly the wording, partly the current IV environment, people are sceptical of putting their real thoughts publicly. The only thing you might end up with is x number of YES and hope to translate the YES into more dollar value for IV and there will be some YES who are already contributing monetarily.

In reality though, everyone who has viewed this thread (1563 views when I last checked - even if you assume each person has checked this thread at least 10 times, that's about 156 individuals out of whom only about 35 have voted so far!) and not bothered to vote is essentially voting "No"! However, again as you point out, I am not really looking for the "No"s since these people have clearly decided they don't want to part with their money at this stage (not ascribing any reasons or motives here - just stating the facts). Instead, my focus is on coalescing a group around those who voted "Yes" since they, like me, agree that they would contribute more if they received more regular updates of what is going on. Our organization just needs a little more "organization" (pun, intended :p) to make it more effective! Again, just reality but that is also the usual natural evolution of most organizations that start out as pure grassroots organizations.
I really do believe there are substantial number of folks out there who can be engaged more effectively in this process and I invite the Core Leadership team to put more thought in figuring out how to achieve this - I hope you take my suggestion constructively!

I dont think that its a good idea to ignore someone who is raising some opposing voice. This is a forum where anyone can raise his or her concerns. I dont think that anyone over here has some hidden agendas or is playing against the main idea of making immigration easier.

It wont happen again. after encashing I485 checks USICS will start I140 PP again to keep cashing money. once I140 backlog will be done then they will earn from EAD renewals.

Yes, I do agree with you but he asked a specific question related to travelling, and this case expungementg will help and he need not to declare at the POE about his case but as you said he will have the side effects of this case in various other stages till he is admitted as PR.

Even when he gets his criminal record expunged, for all immigration matters, he needs to provide information about his conviction and an explanation.

Thanks for your advise and i agree with your thoughts.
I thought of leaving this company several times, but I am working in this company for 6 years and the only company I worked after coming to USA. I invested so much for this company, like working beyond work hours, working in the weekends, making up the project deadlines for the incompetitive colleagues etc. etc. and now just waiting for my Green Card. There were so many times I thought if I get my Green Card I am going to leave this moment. Years passing by and with this retrogression thing, there is very little hope of getting it soon...
The positive thing is, my direct supervisor is very nice and I can voice my opinion and she understands me and completely supports me. I am just praying god that I should keep working for her till I get the GC.
I would only say "Hang On", or move on if you can. A lot of people in same situations, never want to discuss issues openly.
Patience does help, and maybe all the good is stored for future.
Most important is how you deal with stress associated with racial slurs, difference in treatment, and all the above issues. This has direct impact on health and many people in these conditions are victims of stress.
The h1b - GC situation is well known to everyone and they know you are indentured, some managers are called problem solvers (they pretend to hear ur voice, help you from their side and get the work done and try to ease pressure off you if they have an option), whereas some managers are called problem creators (they add additional pressure on you and make u miserable so that they get the work done). The reason companies support their American workers who involve in racial slurs is to avoid issues. It is easy to kick you out and blame you rather than catering to ur problem.

I think we should start a blood donation campaign to impress upon him that aspiring immigrants will not be found lacking in caring for the US army soldiers.

This process is a mockery of the PD cutoff dates, but that's how it works. If you sent your case on June 28, 07, with July 2, 07 as the printed Receive Data on your receipt, but the case where it finally rested, was entered in their database on Oct. 28, '07 (with a Notice Date soon thereafter), you case will not be looked at, no matter what the PD cutoff date is, unless all cases received before Oct. 28, '07 have been reviewed.
Exactly, it is a mockery, they are playing with carrers, time and our money on H1 extenstions , EADs and Advance paroles.

That is life...if you factor in the inflation rate to your 20.8 lakhs...you will realise that it would have been better if you had at least 'enjoyed' your stay here instead of trying to increase the national savings rate.
Maybe now spending that $20 on IV might not sound that bad...after all, these days, its not much in rupees too...2wadas and one chai, thats about it, my friends :mad:
