Sir Alex Ferguson made a personal check on Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre yesterday.
The Scottish Sun says Ferguson has identified the Honduras World Cup star as a possible signing target for the summer.
Fergie is planning to sign a defender who would be a long-term replacement for France ace Patrice Evra.
And Izaguirre, 24, has emerged as a potential Old Trafford recruit after United scouts gave glowing reports on his performances this season.
Neil Lennon is desperate to keep the attacking defender but could be forced to sell if United follow up their interest and table a big-money offer.
