Fergie cracked down following a week of lurid revelations about the England striker's antics with a £1,200-a-night prostitute.
He insisted he left Rooney out of Saturday's return to his former club to save him from abuse by Everton fans.
But privately the fuming Scot opted to dump the errant ace as a punishment designed to ram home his point.
Ferguson was angry Rooney had put himself in such a position and has made it clear there must be no repeats.
