Former France international Marcel Desailly has predicted that Manchester United will be a mountain too high for ambitious Bundesliga side Schalke in the semi-finals of the Champions League next week.
Desailly plied his trade with Chelsea in the English Premier League for six years and the Ghanaian-born star firmly believes Sir Alex Ferguson’s men will reach the Wembley final.
Desailly was quoted by Marca as saying: “Schalke are a strong ambitious team. [But] I personally do not expect that they will be able to pass through the semi-finals of the Champions League.
“I think it’s a negative that the Gelsenkirchen club will have their first game against Manchester United at home. If the opponent [United] scores, it will make it much easier for them in the return [leg] at Old Trafford.
“For me, Sir Alex Ferguson is an unstoppable train. But Schalke have already achieved a lot, so I think they will play without nerves. Therefore we will witness an interesting and exciting battle."
