No Bebe and Hargreaves in Champions League squad.

Manchester United's new £7.4m signing Bebe has been left out of their Champions League squad.

(Latest : UEFA have now confirmed Bebe is on the list and would be available for Man Utd opening game against Rangers at Old Trafford should Ferguson want him.)

The omission may cause eyebrows to be raised among United supporters, particularly when they have named just 24 players in their squad, with UEFA rules allowing for 25.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson shocked the football world last month when he sanctioned the deal to buy the 20-year-old, despite never having seen him play.

There have been concerns that he isn't good enough to play for United, but Ferguson hit back at those worries recently.

He said: 'Bebe is on a programme doing endurance work because his fitness levels are not near the ones we are at. Other than that he has done well.
'Ability-wise he is excellent. He is a terrific finisher.'

United have also left out Owen Hargreaves from their squad for the group stages.

Hargreaves has made only one appearance in the last two years as he battles tendinitis.

If United reach the knockout stages they are then eligible to name a new squad of players.
